Dr. Fred Gawecki

Dr.Fred Gawecki was a successful obstetrician, delivering over five thousand babies, before his career was interrupted by a serious stroke in 1989 at the young age of 53. As part of his therapy, Dr. Gawecki began taking sculpture classes at Bellevue University.

Although his heart was still in medicine, the lingering effects of the stroke prevented Dr. Fred from returning to practice. He continued producing sculpture inspired by his many years in the delivery room, with many pieces relating to mother and child.

The world may have lost a doctor, but it has gained an artist with a unique perspective on the miracle of life.
