Gerry Klein
Glass Artist
I started making windows, lamps, kaleidoscopes and 3-dimensional items, but it wasn’t enough. I felt the need to explore the capabilities of glass even further. In 1988 I taught myself how to fuse glass. Learning how to control the various processes to produce the desired result is both challenging and fun. I can “play” all day even though I am technically working. I love creating both funky and elegant designs using pure vibrant colors. Wanting to learn more about glass, I took a glassblowing class. Glassblowing has shown me how glass can be taken to the limits. Working with stained, fused and blown glass in diverse situations for over twenty-five years has given me varied knowledge and experience. I have won numerous local, state, regional, and national competitions, and currently am a judge for state competitions. In 1990, I was commissioned by the White House Communications Agency to produce a crest dedicated to Air Force wives. Four of my designs are published in books that are distributed internationally. My work is available in Omaha in Studio #107 and Crystal Forge, both located in the Hot Shops Art Center 1301 Nicholas St.; Joslyn Art Museum 2200 Dodge St.; Lauritzen Gardens 100 Bancroft St.; The Passageway Art Gallery 417 S. 11th St. in the Old Market; Louisville Art Gallery in Louisville, NE.; and also at the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage, Alaska. Fusing classes are available. |
